disipyl Installation

Prerequisites

disipyl requires the followingitemsunction properly:

Python (version 2.0 or later) - available from http://www.python.org
DISLIN (version 7.5 or later) - available from http://www.linmpi.mpg.de/dislin/
Numpy - Python Numerical extension module - available from http://sourceforge.net/projects/numpy

One you've obtained each of the above follow the platform-specific instructions. Once you think you've got everything properly installed, run the python interpreter (either from a command-prompt or via IDLE) and type the following:

>>> import Numeric
>>> import dislin
>>>

If you get any error messages, something hasn't been installed correctly. You'll need to get the above working before you can use disipyl.

Installing disipyl

Once you've got Numeric and dislin properly installed you can install disipyl. You have two alternatives:

Using distutils to install disipyl

The easiest option is to use the included setup.py script (driven by distutils) to install disipyl, like so:

c:\tmp\disipyl-0.5\python setup.py build

Installation without distutils

Alternatively, you can just copy the disipyl folder to a directory somewhere on your PYTHONPATH (the site-packages subdirectory of your Python installation is probably a good choice).
